Hootsuite and UK-based consultancy “We Are Social Ltd” has released a report on the internet trends and proposition of social media The Philippines has taken a global lead on time spent on social media. According to the report, Filipinos spend an average of 4 hours and 17 minutes a day on social media websites and application. This data was compiled on the basis of monthly user data released by the sites such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat in the month of January 2017. Next, to the Philippines there were Brazil (3 hours and 43 minutes) and Argentina (3 hours 43 minutes) per day. The top three users of social media reported the similar ranking sequence on the basis of the average broadband speed of the fixed line. South Korea was the fastest having an average of 26.3 Mbps its average time spent on social media was 1 hour 11 minutes per day.
The Growth Of Filipino Internet Users
The report says that a growth of 25% internet users in the last two years and the major contributor to this growth is the rising numbers of smartphones which constitutes 38% of the total web traffic in the Philippines. The country has a social media usage rate of 57% which is the highest among the Southeast Asian countries (about 47%). Filipinos are very outspoken and they love to interact with social media including the mobile live video call applications such as Facebook Live, Bigo Live, and IMO. Both Filipino boys and girls are observed logging in to these platforms on a daily basis. The Philippines is often regarded as “Facebook Capital of the World”.
Privacy Concerns Of Pinoys
According to a survey, Filipinos are friendly and interactive enough on the social media but they are truly concerned about their privacy and about 77% of them hesitate to share their personal data online. Globally this figure is only 66%. 63% of Pinoys think more concerned about brands on social media and join the brand communities and group to learn about the brands, their products, and services. Brand websites and links on social media help them to shop online and take new services to keep them updated.
